Although Ned’s story is clearly a work of fiction, there is a layer of truth to who Ned is. Ned’s character is based on my Siberian Husky, Ned. My wife and I adopted Ned when he was eight years old. He spent the next eight years at our feet and by our side. He was the happiest of dogs. He loved people and cheeseburgers. Our gentle giant. Our Ned Bear. 

    I began writing this story when he was still alive. It was a creative writing exercise on what I thought he’d be like as an actual bear. When he passed, I found editing this book was a wonderful way to keep his spirit alive. I am thankful for all the amazing memories he gave us and for the inspiration to write this story. Most importantly, I’m thankful for him being such a good dog.
